Effectiveness of Preoperative Incentive Spirometry in Patients Following Elective Thoracotomy for Prevention of Postoperative Pulmonary Complication

چکیده

Background: Thoracotomy can cause postoperative impairment of respiratory function and highly risk turns as Postoperative Pulmonary Complication (PPC). One strategies to decrease PPC in preoperative evaluation is lung expansion maneuvers include Incentive Spirometry (IS). was breathing technique that sustained maximal inspiration, using device which give visual feedback. This study aims know effectiveness IS reducing incidence thoracotomy patients.
Methods: Experimental with post test only design. Comparing emerged Melbourne Group Scale Version 2 (MDG-2) criteria elective posterolateral patients who given non preoperative. Data were analyzed chi square test.
Results: Total samples 32 patients. There 11 had PPC, 6 recieved preoperatively. no relation between age, sex, height, smoking history proportion (p value>0,05). Chi showed there incidence(p>0,710).
 Conclusions: not effective preventing

Effectiveness of incentive spirometry in patients following thoracotomy and lung resection including those at high risk for developing pulmonary complications.

BACKGROUND Following thoracotomy, patients frequently receive routine respiratory physiotherapy which may include incentive spirometry, a breathing technique characterised by deep breathing performed through a device offering visual feedback. This type of physiotherapy is recommended and considered important in the care of thoracic surgery patients, but high quality evidence for specific interv...

Postoperative incentive spirometry use.

The authors hypothesized that the use of incentive spirometry by orthopedic patients is less than the recommended level and is affected by patient-related factors and type of surgery. To determine its postoperative use, the authors prospectively surveyed all patients in their institution's general orthopedic ward who had undergone elective spine surgery or total knee or hip arthroplasty during ...

Prevention of postoperative pulmonary complications with CPAP, incentive spirometry, and conservative therapy.

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) administered at intervals with a mask and incentive spirometry (IS) were compared with a regimen of coughing and deep breathing (CDB) to determine which promoted the most rapid recovery of pulmonary function after upper abdominal operations in 65 adults. Postoperatively, FRC of patients in all groups was similar relative to preoperative values. However...

Effects of doxapram on postoperative pulmonary complications following thoracotomy.

An i.v. solution of 5% dextrose with doxapram 2 mg ml-1 or 5% dextrose alone was administered to 53 patients following lateral thoracotomy. Estimations of arterial PO2, PCO2 and pH were made before operation, during infusion and 7 days after after operation. Respiratory function tests were carried out before and 7 days after operation. There were no significant differences in arterial PO2, PCO2...
